Thunderball Max

Ela-Games keeps this one simple: cherries, lemons, watermelons and stars on five reels, with a crackling blue thunder-ball hovering over the top. Land enough coin symbols and you're into a Hold & Win respin board chasing four fixed jackpots. I ran it in demo, hit the bonus, and logged what actually landed — because 94% RTP means the honest number matters more than the 10,000x on the tin.

THE FULL REVIEW

Seven stops around the ride — what it is, how it plays, and where the money really moves.

1 Neon fruit and a thunder-ball

Thunderball Max wears the classic 777 / fruit costume: cherries, lemons, grapes, watermelons, plums and golden stars on a dark blue-and-violet cabinet, all lit by a crackling blue lightning-ball sitting between the jackpot tiles up top. It's a tidy, no-nonsense look — the kind of board that trades on nostalgia rather than story. The action is all in the coins.

2 The Hold & Win coin board

The hook is a Hold & Win respin round. Land enough golden coin symbols and they lock, triggering respins where every fresh coin sticks and resets the count. Each coin carries its own cash value — in my run I watched tiles land at 10.00, 7.00 and a fat 24.00 — and you collect the lot when the respins run dry. It's the exact frame you've met a hundred times, executed cleanly.

3 Four jackpots and a random multiplier

Above the reels sit four fixed jackpots — GRAND, MAJOR, MINOR and MINI — that I could read off the top panel at 1,000.00, 150.00, 50.00 and 25.00 respectively at my stake. The blue thunder-ball is the game's random-multiplier gimmick, capable of juicing a spin or a collected coin haul. That multiplier is where the 10,000x ceiling theoretically lives.

4 The maths, and the catch

Here's the honest bit: 94% RTP is lean — a couple of points under most modern slots and well under the 96% par — and volatility is HIGH. The 10,000x max win looks generous, but on a 94% game you're paying for that ceiling with a thinner base return than you'd get almost anywhere else. My own bonus paid out a modest 4.57 total on a 1.00 bet. It's a competent classic, but the numbers ask you to keep your stakes honest.

The house rules, plainly

HOW IT WORKS

  1. Grid & symbols. Five-reel classic board built on fruit and sevens, with a golden coin symbol that drives the bonus and a lightning-ball feature symbol up top.
  2. Hold & Win respins. Land enough coin symbols to trigger the Hold & Win round: coins lock, respins begin, and each fresh coin sticks and resets the respin count. Collected coin values are paid at the end.
  3. Jackpot tiers. Four fixed jackpots — GRAND, MAJOR, MINOR and MINI — are shown across the top of the screen and are awarded through the coin round.
  4. Random multiplier. The thunder-ball feature applies a random multiplier that can boost a win or the collected coin total.

HOW I PLAYED IT

Demo run, one bonus caught. Two frames off my screen — the base fruit reels with the jackpots up top, and the Hold & Win coin board mid-round.

The base fruit reels — cherries, lemons, grapes, watermelon and golden stars — with the four jackpot tiles reading GRAND 1,000, MAJOR 150, MINOR 50 and MINI 25 across the top.
BASEThe base fruit reels — cherries, lemons, grapes, watermelon and golden stars — with the four jackpot tiles reading GRAND 1,000, MAJOR 150, MINOR 50 and MINI 25 across the top.
The Hold & Win coin board mid-round: locked coin tiles showing 10.00, 24.00 and 7.00 values around the crackling thunder-ball, collecting toward the jackpots.
HOLD & WINThe Hold & Win coin board mid-round: locked coin tiles showing 10.00, 24.00 and 7.00 values around the crackling thunder-ball, collecting toward the jackpots.

The honest tally: the coin board dropped with values of 10.00, 24.00 and 7.00 on the grid, the thunder-ball did its bit, and the round closed at a TOTAL WIN of 4.57 on my 1.00 bet. That's a below-cost bonus, and on a 94% RTP game that's exactly the kind of result you should expect more often than not. The frame's fine; the return is lean. Keep the stakes small. — Tess

The token verdict
THE VERDICT
7.1
Just past seven tokens in the tray

What earns its ticket

  • Clean, instantly readable classic-fruit Hold & Win frame
  • Four fixed jackpot tiers give the coin round a clear target
  • Big 10,000x max-win ceiling
  • Thunder-ball random multiplier adds a jolt to base wins

What to watch

  • 94% RTP is lean — well under the 96% par
  • HIGH volatility: expect long dry runs and below-cost bonuses (mine paid 4.57)
  • Theme and mechanic are both very well-worn
  • The 10,000x ceiling is a long shot on this return

Seven-point-one because it's a clean, readable Hold & Win classic with a real 10,000x ceiling and a four-tier ladder — and held back because 94% RTP is genuinely lean and HIGH variance stacks the quiet spins high. A fine time-killer at small stakes, not a bankroll builder. — Tess Hale

Ex-arcade cashier turned pokies writer. Tess reads a slot the way she used to read a coin-op: what it costs to play, what the machine actually gives back, and whether the “big one” is real or just paint on the glass. Sceptical, warm, allergic to hype.

  • Demo first, always — “the cheapest ticket in the park.”
  • Buys the feature on purpose and prints what it returned — no cherry-picking.
  • Logs the real ladder she hit that session, not the marketing ceiling.

THUNDERBALL MAX FAQ

What is the RTP and max win on Thunderball Max?
The published RTP is 94% and the maximum win is 10,000x your stake. Volatility is rated HIGH. That RTP is a couple of points below the 96% most modern slots aim for, so treat the big ceiling as a long shot.
How does the Hold & Win feature work?
Land enough golden coin symbols to trigger the round: coins lock in place, respins begin, and each new coin sticks and resets the respin counter. Each coin carries a cash value that's collected at the end, and filling toward the four jackpot tiers can award the GRAND, MAJOR, MINOR or MINI.
What did the bonus actually pay you?
In my demo session the Hold & Win round closed at a total win of 4.57 on a 1.00 bet — below the cost of the spins that fed into it. On a 94% RTP, HIGH-variance game that below-cost result is more common than the big hits, which is exactly why I log the real number rather than the marketing ceiling.
Can I try Thunderball Max for free first?
Yes — Ela-Games' Thunderball Max has a free demo mode, like almost every slot we cover. On a lean 94% game especially, scouting it in demo before you spend is the smart, cheap move.
