Spirit of Savanna

A savanna at golden hour, a lion that pays as the scatter, and a jackpot bar reading GRAND €500 across the top — Spirit of Savanna is Ela Games chasing the Africa-safari crowd. I demoed it on the €1 bet, banked a scatter hit, and got as far as the feature-select screen. Here's the honest, partial read.

THE FULL REVIEW

Seven stops around the ride — what it is, how it plays, and where the money really moves.

1 Golden-hour savanna, drawn warm

Spirit of Savanna is all amber light and long grass — acacia trees on the horizon, a tribal-pattern frame around the reels, everything lit like late afternoon. The symbol set is the safari lineup done handsomely: a glowing lion up top, zebra, hyena, buffalo and gazelle, with painted card royals below. The Africa / animals theme is well-travelled, but the art here is a cut above the average.

2 The three-tier jackpot bar

Pinned across the top are three fixed jackpots I read straight off the bar: GRAND €500.0, MAJOR €150.0 and MINOR €50.0, shown at the €1 bet. That's a modest ladder — this isn't a slot selling you a life-changing GRAND, it's one selling frequent-ish jackpot chances at a friendly size. Know that going in and it sets your expectations honestly.

3 The lion scatter and the feature

The lion is the scatter — I landed a couple and they paid a flat €1.00 on my €1 bet, a break-even nod rather than a windfall, but they're the key into the bonus. The feature stack is a hold-and-win respin with sticky and additive symbols feeding the jackpot bar, plus free spins. There's a CHOOSE YOUR FEATURE menu and a Buy Feature button — you can pick your way in or pay for it directly.

4 The maths, and what I didn't reach

The numbers say handle-with-care: 94% RTP, High volatility, a 3,000x max win, €1 demo bet. High variance on a 94% game is a demanding combination — the €500 GRAND and the 3,000× ceiling are real, but you'll ride a lot of dry spins to get near them, and the RTP is a couple of points under the 96% benchmark. I want to be straight: I reached the feature-select menu but not a running bonus round this session, so I can't tell you what the hold-and-win actually returns.

The house rules, plainly

HOW IT WORKS

  1. Lion scatter. The lion is the scatter symbol; landing it pays directly (a €1.00 hit on my €1 bet) and enough of them open the feature.
  2. Hold & Win respins. Special symbols land with cash values and lock in place, triggering respins while the rest of the reels spin on. Sticky and additive symbols feed the jackpot bar.
  3. Jackpot bar. Three fixed jackpots — GRAND €500, MAJOR €150 and MINOR €50 at the €1 bet — sit across the top and are awarded through the feature.
  4. Choose Your Feature / Buy. A feature-select menu lets you pick your entry, and a Buy Feature button pays straight in. I reached the menu but did not run a full feature round this session, so no buy cost or return is quoted.

HOW I PLAYED IT

Demoed on the €1 bet, no completed buy — I played the base game, banked a scatter, and stepped into the feature-select screen. Two frames off my screen: the golden savanna board, and a lion-scatter hit.

The golden-hour board at €1: glowing lions, zebra, hyena, buffalo and gazelle over painted card royals, with the MAJOR €150 / GRAND €500 / MINOR €50 jackpot bar across the top. Balance €4,997.50.

Two lion SCATTER symbols landing for a flat €1.00 on the €1 bet — a break-even nod and the key into the feature. This is as far as my session reached; no running bonus round captured.

The honest tally: my session balance moved from €5,000 down to about €4,983 across the base spins — ordinary drift for a High-variance slot between features. The lion scatters paid a flat €1.00 on the €1 bet, which is break-even rather than a payday, and I reached the CHOOSE YOUR FEATURE menu but didn't run a full bonus round, so I can't report a real feature return. On a 94% / High game I'd demo hard and keep the buys small. — Tess

The token verdict
THE VERDICT
7.5
Seven and a half tickets on a hot afternoon

What earns its ticket

  • Genuinely handsome golden-hour safari art
  • Lion scatter pays directly and opens the feature
  • Hold-and-win with a choose-your-feature option
  • Modest but honest three-tier jackpot bar

What to watch

  • 94% RTP paired with High variance is demanding on a bankroll
  • 3,000x ceiling and €500 GRAND are a long shot at High volatility
  • I reached only the feature menu, not a running round
  • The Africa-safari theme is very well-worn

Seven-point-five because the art is warm and the mechanics are sound — and not higher because a 94% RTP with High variance is a demanding pairing and I couldn't verify a full feature. A looker with a long climb to its ceiling. — Tess Hale

Ex-arcade cashier turned pokies writer. Tess reads a slot the way she used to read a coin-op: what it costs to play, what the machine actually gives back, and whether the “big one” is real or just paint on the glass. Sceptical, warm, allergic to hype.

  • Demo first, always — “the cheapest ticket in the park.”
  • Buys the feature on purpose and prints what it returned — no cherry-picking.
  • Logs the real ladder she hit that session, not the marketing ceiling.

SPIRIT OF SAVANNA FAQ

What is the RTP and max win on Spirit of Savanna?
The published RTP is 94% and the maximum win is 3,000x your stake. Volatility is High. It's an Ela Games safari slot with a hold-and-win feature and a three-tier jackpot bar — GRAND €500, MAJOR €150 and MINOR €50 at the €1 bet.
Is the lion a scatter?
Yes — the lion is the scatter. It pays directly when it lands (a flat €1.00 on my €1 bet in this session) and gathering enough of them opens the bonus feature.
How risky is the 94% RTP and High variance combination?
It's a demanding pairing. The 94% RTP is a couple of points under the 96% benchmark, and High variance means long dry runs between wins. The €500 GRAND and 3,000× ceiling are real but rare — treat this as a game that asks patience and a firm budget, not a quick hit.
Can I try Spirit of Savanna for free first?
Yes — I played this whole session in a free demo on the €1 bet. On a High-variance slot especially, scouting it for free before you spend is the cheapest ticket in the park.
Can I play Spirit of Savanna in New Zealand?
Allstars Land is an information site — we don't offer gambling and you can't wager here. Real-money casino play in New Zealand runs through offshore operators with no local licence or protection, so if you choose to play, set a firm budget first and treat it as paid fun, not income.
